Yvonne came across this game in a press release and the name grabbed our attention: Booktastic! The press release said it was being carried by Borders, so I checked our local store and sure enough I was able to get one for our new office.
When I got it home, I found that one of the bookstores on the game board is named "Thom's Tomes" and I just couldn't resist. Here's the entrance to Thom's Tomes, scanned from the board.
According to USA Today, the game was invented by a self-proclaimed "obsessive" book lover, Laine Keneller. The object is to acquire the most valuable collection of books (and cash) by visting bookstores and trading with other players. You can earn cash at the start of each turn by answering book-related questions. The amount you earn depends on your selection of the level of difficulty, including the easiest level (for the "Casual Reader") which has no wrong answers.
Seems like the perfect way to take a break from your writing and enjoy some time with a few close friends or family, doesn't it?
Ooh, I already have a game night planned with reader-ly friends this Friday. I'll have to try to find a copy by then!
